Last week I moderated a dynamic panel discussion in the heart of Amsterdam during ADE – "Music As a Multi Industry Catalyst: Startups Leading the Way." A huge thank you to Amsterdam Dance Event for hosting this event, Jan Willem Van der Meer for spearheading ADE's Music Tech Initiatives and to all the insightful panelists - Jason Dadi Gudjonsson, John Bonten, Mark Williamson and Rishi Patel for their invaluable contributions. Some main take aways from the panel were: 1. Innovation at the Intersection: Startups at the intersection of music and other sectors are driving change, creating new opportunities and challenging the status quo, but the music licensing landscape continues to present hurdles. It's imperative to explore new and/or supplemental licensing models that will more easily open 'music doors' to innovators. 2. Multi-Sector Synergy: In order for music tech startups, to maximize their Total Addressable Market (TAM), they often find themselves straddling multiple sectors. This multi-sector approach can be both helpful and a hinderance, depending on the cross section and the startups ultimate goal (i.e. acquisition). 3. Connections Are Key: In the music industry, connections are one of if not the most valuable asset. Startups need to navigate a complex web of relationships, and this industry-specific requirement sets it apart. Collaboration and networking will always play a pivotal role in a startup's success. Why does it take so long to create Web3 products, and why does it take so much effort to get consumers to use them? 🎟️ 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 Is ticketing the killer consumer application in sport, or are existing systems too entrenched? Are collectible tickets too niche a market to be the product itself, and what are the other advantages to having tickets on a blockchain? 🌐 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝘆𝗽𝘁𝗼 Many brands have sold NFTs, but they think the digital asset is the product themselves. This is a mistake. NFTs are a feature not a product, so how does this change going forward? 👥 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 & 𝗗𝗔𝗢𝘀 Are DAOs having a moment in Sports? And do DAOs inherently make more sense in Sports than any other industry? Most DAOs to date have been a disaster, so what has to change for them to have a lasting impact in the next 5 years? 💡 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 How difficult is it to innovate in Sport when you're dealing with big rights deals?
