Hi, all! For the unaware, we’ve shifted our customary weekly chats over to the chat platform Discord. It’s a lot better for in-game conversations than the Substack thread since it allows for links and videos and just generally fosters a more fluid and lively conversation. The thoughtful little community we have here is one of my favorite things about writing the newsletter — especially at a time when so many of us just can’t be with the people we’re always with — and Discord has been a nice place to let that breathe a little bit.
So, here’s the plan: I’m creating an always-open, private Discord server for all paid subscribers. As some of you have asked for, this will include a 24/7 general channel — for anyone to comment and question and chat about whatever is going on in the soccer world, at any time. I’ll pop in and out from time to time, but really, I’ve always wanted there to be an open forum-type space beyond the designated game chats for those of you who are watching, I don’t know, the Fiorentina–Bologna match and wanna talk to someone about it or just wanna argue about the USWNT’s fourth-string left-back problem.
We’re also going to move the majority of the game-specific chats into this private server as well. We’ll still do some free chats here and there, but most of them will be for premium subscribers only now.
Given the change, I’m gonna offer 15 percent off the typical premium rate (normally, $7/month or $70/year) for the next week to those of you who are not subscribed already. Sound good? Here’s your button. Click it by next Friday:
This weekend’s chat — we’ll do Arsenal and Manchester United — will still be open to anyone, and then next week I’ll send out an invite to the new server to all premium subscribers. Be well, all.
How do we get access to the Discord server? I just joined as a paid subscriber.
