Negative Nancy says - “Webflow is a no-code based solution but most people prefer to code”
Me - Most builders are swiftly moving from coding platforms to No-Code platforms like Webflow, Bubble. No-Code platforms are the new normal.
Negative Nancy says - “There are many CSS frameworks/solutions. Why only concentrate on Tailwind CSS?”
Me - Agreed. You can replicate below content/ideas for any CSS frameworks like Material UI/Bulma/Bootstrap etc. You can also build products that work on multi-CSS frameworks as well. For example, a landing page builder that works with Tailwind, Material UI, Bootstrap, and Bulma components.
Deep-dive & Some niches
With 300K searches/month search volume for the keyword “Webflow”, Webflow is getting increasingly popular. The same is the case with Tailwind. The keyword 'Tailwind' has 200K searches per month and more people started using Tailwind.
The ecosystem and number of users around Webflow and Tailwind are growing at a rapid pace.
Let’s see some of the niches that you can think of around Webflow and Tailwind.
Webflow CMS Solutions: Webflow has built-in CMS with access to APIs to update the CMS. But often people have their data, posts, content at other places like Google Sheets, Airtable, Excel, etc. People use Google Sheets, Airtable, Excel for the simplicity and ease of maintaining data. Create a Micro-SaaS solution that helps this process where people can maintain the data in Google Sheets, Airtable, and be able to sync with Webflow CMS. Apart from ‘Sync with Google sheets and Airtable’, also provide an option to upload via Excel file. Many people also want to syn their WordPress data to Webflow CMS data. Provide an add-on for WordPress too. There are thousands of users building websites in WordPress. An add-on for WordPress to Webflow CMS sync could make it interesting. Coda is another popular tool to maintain data, so building a plugin around syncing Coda data to Webflow CMS could give new users too.
Webflow Templates: This isn’t exactly a Micro-SaaS product but can surely be a starting point if you want to start with Webflow Templates. Webflow Templates have great demand. There are various groups and forums around Webflow Templates. Start with a few free Webflow templates and add paid templates as you see traction. Once you have enough templates and if you plan to add more templates regularly, plan to start charging a year subscription to access the templates. Furthermore, build business/niche-specific templates too. Business-specific templates like ‘Agency templates’ make it easy to bring in more sales. Most people also use Webflow for Blogging. Creating templates around Blogging style Webflow Templates too can draw traction.
Productized Webflow development service: If you have strong experience in Webflow development, you can start productized service for Webflow development. If you haven’t heard of ‘productized services’, it's a great way to bundle services for a fixed monthly subscription cost. If you don’t have strong experience in Webflow development and you have enough contacts to build something like this and get clients, get a co-founder with Webflow skills onboard. Productized services like these charge anywhere around $800- $1000/month per customer. All you need is 10 clients to hit 100K ARR with this model. You can extend this to normal web development too or add more niches too to the offering as you get more contacts/clients. For example, along with Webflow Development, you can also support WordPress, Tailwind development too for a fixed monthly subscription cost. There is a lot of advantage for customers as they don’t have to look for a new developer every time they need a charge and don’t need a full-time in-house developer. This cuts down the cost for the customers. See PressFlowand DesignDash for some inspiration.
Premium plug-ins/add-ons for Webflow: While Webflow is a strong platform with robust CMS for content, there are still a lot of missing components in Webflow. As Webflow is primarily a NoCode system, build a Micro SaaS platform that provides NoCode plugins for Webflow. Webflow provides an option to embed code and users can add the scripts (provided by you in the form of widgets/plugins) using the ‘embed code’ option. Advanced filtering, advanced search solution for Webflow CMS data, pagination, etc are some of the popular needs for Webflow users.
Below are some other plug-ins for Webflow that you could think to build.
Advanced filtering for CMS items, Advanced search over specific fields in Webflow CMS, Pagination/Filtering for CMS data, Displaying Instagram feed, Displaying Popups dynamically, Photo galleries, etc. See here for more plugins examples that you try to build.
Once you have enough plugins with you, add a subscription service to use any of the plugins for a monthly price. For example, if you have about 10-15 small plugins for Webflow, you can charge about $15/month to let customers use any of the plugins. You can keep the price per plugin as well. On top of this, you can add a freemium model as well and add tiers based on plugin usage (for 5K views, 10K views, 100K views, etc)
The advantage with this model is these plugins can be made generic at some point and can be made to work with other platforms too like Wix, WordPress, SqaureSpace, or any other NoCode website builders.
No-Code DB/Backend for Webflow: Webflow has its own CMS but there are still several users using Google sheet, Airtable as a database for Webflow because of the ease of use. Create a Micro SaaS service that helps Webflow users connect their website to a standalone no-code database. Along with the No-Code database, also provide required quick back-end APIs as well without writing any code. See NoCodeDB for some inspiration. The goal should be to provide a working No-Code database that can connect to Webflow and display the data. As you get more customers, create plugins that can import the data into this No-Code DB from other systems like Airtable, Google sheets, etc.
