Medium the blogging community does the same at the $5 mark. It helps keeps the community prosocial and comments are pretty constructive and supportive.

About online communities: Joel Spolsky has blogged quite a bit about the very deliberate social design of stackoverflow.com, i.e. software features to encourage the kind of behaviour they want to see on the site

As books I'm reading The cult of we, about Adam Neumann and WeWork, and I think it's an interesting piece on how VC works and how sometimes in investing one of the risks is to get carried away by herd and by good stories without much substance.
