…Tonga updates
Unfortunately, there have been COVID-19 cases detected in the Kingdom of Tonga, which is still very much in emergency mode after the volcanic eruption and tsunami. As of Feb 10, 66 cases have been confirmed, mostly in the capital Nuku’alofa.
This situation report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs shares more information about how the cases have impacted Tonga. Schools opened but closed again after Tonga locked down to curb the virus spread. Repairs to the undersea cable are underway. According to this report, “access to safe water remains the most pressing issue.” Here’s a list of organizations where you can donate to help Tonga, if you can.
