"I'm not a hardcore rationalist either"

I'm sorry, but either you aren't very self-aware or you're lying to my face, and I have no patience for the latter. You're engaged in a debate about whether it's immoral to enjoy eating cake or playing video games, are trying to use a pure neurochemical model to explain religion while also claiming to be spiritual, and bury the actual content of your words under so many parentheticals .and conditionals that your points are about to die from being crushed. If there was an award for "most stereotypically Rationalist behavior", you'd be one panic attack about AGI away from winning it.

I'm just going to slice to the quick here: have you ever actually had a genuinely religious experience? Do you believe in a soul, or life after death, or in fact ANYTHING outside of the material world? If you respond to either of these with a bunch of weird, evasive, couched language about how you don't actually BELIEVE anything, or you had an experience but you wouldn't SAY it was supernatural, then you aren't spiritual in any meaningful way- you're just a materialist with a contrarian streak. Turn off the "analysis" for a bit and talk to me like a human being. Or don't, but this conversation isn't going to go anywhere good for either of us that way.
