Can we start calling "Moms for Liberty" what they really are? How about "Moms For Racism" because that's really what they're about. I'm so sick and tired of reading about how white racists are trying to turn back the hands of time. I don't understand why teaching history the way it actually happened is such a hard concept. Serious question: wouldn't the Moms for Liberty preferred text also be banned under the current CRT law? It's too traumatizing for a white kid to read about how another white person sprayed black people with a fire hose but it's ok for a black kid to read about other black people were referred to as "pickaninnies"? Are we living in some alternate reality where these white racists think they're the real victims of racism? I am so sick of our current climate and I don't see it getting better any time soon.
The complaint department at the Tennessee BOE is going to be mighty busy during Black History Month. Or...the opposite. Tennessee will probably just ignore it altogether.

Thank you for what true journalism should be, and why does it produce excruciatingly painful feelings in this reader? I'm never surprised that conditions are worse than I imagined, but the depths you discover could wake us all up if we have the courage. On that note, we can understand why people project their inner hatred and insanity on to others. And, why revealing this barely hidden malevolence remains important. It's there for all of us to deal with. Thank you, Judd!
Interesting that my reading of Ta Nehisi Coates is so different from yours. I'll never forget hIs story of Prince Carmen Jones. The irony (or not) that he was gunned down by an obese black police officer who went way out of his way to target and kill this true prince of a man illustrates the lack of safety and justice in the world he knows well. [coda, the 9-11 first responder police and firemen deserve our deep respect and appreciation]
The United States of America: A country where it is far easier to get a book banned than it is to enact any law restricting gun sales and/or use.
