Last May, a boy sexually assaulted a girl in a bathroom at Stone Bridge High School in Loudoun County, Virginia. The teen was convicted of the assault this week in a Virginia juvenile court. The incident, however, was grossly mishandled by Loudoun County schools. While the charges against the boy were pending, he was permitted to transfer to another county high school. The same boy is now accused of a sexual assault at Broad Run High School on October 6. The boy allegedly forced a girl into an empty classroom and "inappropriately touched her." The boy will be tried in that case next month.
You really have to admire (read: loathe and detest) the GOP's commitment to shielding sexual predators from wrongdoing. I don't love the Democratic Party, but the Republican Party is off the rails on so many levels.
I feel so helpless about the VA Governors race. Not to mention the state of the right wing media. Nevertheless I reposted this column to my Twitter feed, hope it will help a little.
Well, I sent it to Asra. I probably won't hear back from her because I'd already answered questions from her about the specific gender identity questions the school had to complete on a survey (anonymously).
