Great read as usual! There is a similar piece to be written about Adam Smith and the contrast between "Wealth of Nations" and "Theory of Moral Sentiments" in the context of modern day political economy and technology debates. Similar to Machiavelli, Smith gets caricatured for the sake of certain cultural affordances. "Wealth of Nations" is a technical account of how to build a strong, modern industrial economy, while the "Theory of Moral Sentiments" is about individual virtue in the context of a political economy described in the "Wealth of Nations." Also, the parable of the "Poor Man's Son" in the "Theory of Moral Sentiments" is solid narrative violation about Smith (https://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/smith-adam/works/moral/part04/part4.htm)

Writing process question. Were you thinking of the sections in today's article as you were reading Machiavelli or did you put it all together after reading everything and sitting down to write an article?
