Wonderful and moving column. Inspiring as well. We who are not artists would love to understand better how to value a work. As outdoor art fair season nears, how do you know if that work you love is worth $700, $250, or $6,000? I totally value the artist. No clue how to "value" the art.
What a wonderful and moving (and practical!) reminder that we can do so many things at once: support living artists, bring beauty and meaning into our homes, work to change the culture and the systems around buying and supporting art in our lives and communities. It also occurs to me that people in charge of a wide range of workplace environment could shift their decorating priorities to support living artists as well.
Love this. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent article with highly practical advice. I'll be sharing this on Twitter today.
