That was a cool song 🎵, glad you shared that bit of information. I have one maybe more but my favorite is “Don’t worry be happy “ by Bobby McFerrin just because I don’t want anyone to worry about my soul and where I’ll end up.
There is something soothing and wonderful about that song. Especially when in the context of a parting ceremony to honor someone's life. I think it is a very special message and one that would be important to hear at a time of mourning.
i hope you live a long, healthy, prosperous life too! that was a cool song :-) i've never heard of that band before, but now i'll have to check them out!
i've never really thought about what i'd play at my funeral because my family have all sort of agreed we're not into funerals. but i think i'd probably like something old school like this:
Thanks 😊 And yes, I know their style probably isn't for everyone but I think they are experimenting a lot with their music so you might find something you enjoy.
Wow! Both of those songs were very good choices. I hadn't heard The Splitting Glass before (and it was live!). I'll have to check Hozier out more.
I'm so sorry for your loss. That song is very beautiful and that's very sweet of you to remember him like that. I'm adding it to my playlist and will think of him whenever it plays.
cool! i'm glad you liked the songs, and thanks for your kind sentiments :-) i have my go-to favs, but i love all kinds of music, so thanks for introducing me to something new!
That was a good song that I've never heard before. Thanks for the share. My pick for a my funeral song is strange. Lowlands lol. Just thought it would be awesome for my guests to hear, and I like the lyrics. This can be loud, so turn it down if you give it a listen.
I’m familiar with Greta Van Fleet but don’t know this song I will have to check it out! I still can’t get over how much their lead singer sounds EXACTLY like Robert Plant!
I guess I’m in a contemplative mood because I can’t decide between three different chill multi-layer songs for my funeral. In no particular order
Dry The Rain- The Beta Band
Come Downstairs and Say Hello- Guster
Something Beautiful- Alexi Murdoch
I’d be happy with any of these (but maybe especially Dry The Rain).
They’re all pretty, have great grooves and surprises, and any one of them would (hopefully) have everyone at the funeral either grooving or singing along or both.
I'll have to check these songs out that you've posted. I'm excited. I love music sharing. I once did a thing in college where a group of friends had to make an album of 12 songs that defined them completely. It was soooo hard to narrow it down to 12 songs haha. But it was a fun experiment and we got to know each other better because of it.
You’re welcome! I miss music sharing. My brother I (mostly him really) used to make great mixes of stuff we both liked, and mix cds were a big part of dating my wife so I’ll always have a soft spot for all things musical.
By the way here are some links for those songs plus one more amazing one: an instrumental called John Butler Trio that’s worth a listen when you’ve got time to kill (it’s not exactly short 🤣)
Not thinking about death doesn’t erase it so I’m working on having more of these kinds of “adult” conversations.
True. Coming to terms with mortality is a big thing. Gives much needed perspective for sure.
I want them to play “Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead” at my funeral, and I hope people honor me by laughing and getting plastered.
O M G.
I do like the idea of turning funerals into celebrations rather than explicitly times of mourning, but everyone mourns differently I suppose.
Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven seems to be appropriate for me, just saying. Fav group and song.

i recently lost a dear friend quite suddenly, and i can't stop playing this song (i'm not even religious, but he was, and i hope he would like it)

That was epic, Victor. Very powerful and rhythmic and even soothing in a way. I love shanties, too. So that’s a plus.

Appreciate it!
Dry the Rain was so good! It'll be alright, it'll be alright. Very catchy and uplifting.
Exactly so glad you liked it!
I liked the other 2 as well. I hadn’t heard them before so I appreciate the share :)
Meant to say the last song was called Ocean by John Butler Trio but messed up. 🤦♂️
Holy cow. That was incredible. Thank you for sharing that. I had no idea the guitar could be played like that. I'm awestruck!
Right?! My brother and I saw him play that live years ago and I still don’t know how it’s possible to get all that sound from one stinking guitar!
