Job Description

Her Campus Media is seeking a creative, strategic, versatile Director of Branded Content to oversee branded programs across the HCM portfolio of brands (Her Campus, Spoon University, College Fashionista, Generation Hired) from beginning to end, from ideation/pre-sale through execution. This role will report to the VP of Content and should be extremely adept at working cross-functionally, managing programs with a lot of moving parts, and thoughtfully aligning client needs and expectations with internal/brand goals and POV.  The right candidate will be comfortable liaising with everyone from sellers to clients to editors to freelancers to talent, plus managing your own team. This person will play a crucial role in the growth of digital revenue and branded programs across all Her Campus Media brands, including but not limited to working on branded site and social content, custom photo and video shoots, virtual and in-person events, and more. The Director of Branded Content will also assist with marketing proposals and client communication. 

The ideal candidate has their finger on the pulse of what's trending for Gen Z - what they want to watch and read more of; what they want to see when they scroll through TikTok; what memes they want to tag their friends in on Instagram. The ideal candidate should also understand the importance of inclusivity and feel comfortable writing, editing, and assigning in a diverse range of voices, and be passionate about providing innovative and relatable content in a way that is authentic, smart, and genuine. The ideal candidate should be business-minded with creative, editorial instincts, able to think big picture but also pay close attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

• Ideate and provide creative vision and direction on all branded content (editorial, social, video, events) during client proposal process for Her Campus Media portfolio brands.

• Manage execution of, and actually execute on, branded content post-sale across all platforms.

• Oversee branded video and photoshoots including execution of pre- and post-production, including talent management, as applicable.

• Manage junior branded content team members, including full-time employees and contractors/freelancers.

• Ideate dedicated/sponsored event programming, including event names, segment concepts etc., in pre- and post-sale and work closely with Community team for casting talent for dedicated/sponsored virtual events.

•Provide all promotional copy for virtual and in-person events, in collaboration with branded content associates, for programming promotion, including event landing page, social promotion, email marketing and more.

• Act as branded content lead in brainstorm calls with Sales and Integrated Marketing teams and during client kickoff calls and check-ins.

• Submit proposal concepts to Integrated Marketing for presentation decks; maintain editorial calendar for sellable moments and content packages for Sales to use in planning.

• Ensure branded content preserves brand voice and integrity.

• Act as the lead liaison between Editorial and Sales teams and serve as sales team-facing editorial resource, providing sales team with audience insights and reports as needed.

• Manage revenue-adjacent strategic content partnerships with brands.

• Stay up-to-date on branded content industry trends, happenings, and competitor landscape in order to keep a pulse on the industry and bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 8+ years experience in a fast-paced digital media or creative environment, with significant branded content experience

  • 2+ years management experience

  • Passionate about storytelling through different platforms including social media, especially TikTok, Instagram, Instagram Stories, Facebook, and YouTube, as well as photo and video shoots, as opposed to just written content

  • Ability to see the big picture and think critically and strategically while also maintaining attention to detail

  • Equal parts creative, editorial strategist and business- and revenue-minded leader

  • Innovative, entrepreneurial mindset and approach, with desire to push the envelope, bring new ideas and formats to the table, and execute on first-of-its kind programs 

  • Quick and efficient worker with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once

  • Self-starter with a go-getter attitude, positive and upbeat nature, and excellent work ethic who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty and is excited about working in a start-up environment

  • Video-editing experience; proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva, Reels/TikTok, Asana preferred

Interview Process & Expectations
