Company Description

Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. For us, life's not about a job, it's about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are and together we'll do what's right (not what's easy) to serve the public conversation.

Job Description

We believe users should always know what data we collect from them and how we use it, and that users should have meaningful control over both. We want to empower users to make the best decisions about the information that they share with us. At the same time, data enables us to build delightful, relevant, and effective ad experiences on the platform

This role is vital to Twitter's ability to keep our users' trust as we continue to grow our ads business. You'll have an immediate impact by focusing on the safeguards and protection mechanisms that enforce the promises we make to our users with respect to their data. You'll collaborate with engineers across the revenue organization, understanding their workflows and use cases, and devising creative ways to streamline data access in a secure and compliant way.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build a generic, configuration-driven, data filtration layer for Hadoop, Google BigQuery, and Kafka pipelines to protect data consumers from using data contrary to privacy policies.
  • Lead and manage proactive development of new privacy features and tools.
  • Bring new ideas, designs, and tools to the table, drive technical discussions and decision making related to the development and technology stack.
  • Design and build a back-end data store and API to provide centralized access to privacy settings to online and offline services.
  • The team is newly forming, and you will have an opportunity to help shape the culture, roadmap and focus as we grow.

Qualifications

  • 4 + years of experience as a backend engineer, with a solid foundation in data pipelines, distributed systems, and large-scale data processing
  • Experience MapReduce, Hadoop, HDFS, and Spark Streaming
  • Experience in one or more JVM based language such as Java or Scala
