Job Description

The Role

The Social Media Manager is responsible for engaging and growing the Linux Foundation's owned social/digital channels by creating and distributing informative, high-value social content to different audiences across various platforms. This includes the ability to respond quickly by developing and publishing content in real-time, as well as being able to conduct long term planning to support our editorial calendar. 

This role will take on management responsibilities for large and established social media channels to drive more followers, interest, and collaboration within and across multiple open source communities that we serve.  You’ll be responsible for taking our social game and voice to the next level, across:

Twitter (393,000 followers)

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the social media landscape, trends/analytics, social media best practices and social media management platforms. We are looking for a creative, self-starter who is nimble and understands the power of storytelling in a concise way. This person will help define, establish, and communicate what, why, when, and how we publish, and prioritize which channels are most appropriate to reach our target audience. The candidate will also look at analytics across social platforms and use their findings to help guide our social strategy to ensure our efforts are effective in delivering measurable results.

The social media manager will work closely with our marketing teams, editorial director, program managers and thought leaders across the LF to develop campaigns that support organization-wide intitatives. The person in this role will have a passion for open source software, hardware and standards as well as writing and creating content that influences, educates, inspires, and sometimes entertains. They should be a student of the latest social media trends and strategies and enjoy building community.

Qualifications

  • Be a central voice of the large communities we support

  • Build and manage a social media calendar

  • Create and test original social content in various formats, including video/audio clips, screenshots, charts/graphs, diagrams, tweetstorms, etc.

  • Actively build, track, and manage a community of fans and influencers

  • Craft and edit copy for all social channels including Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Facebook

  • Partner closely with the Creative Services team for assets to support social media posts

  • Set up social listening for keywords and target audiences and use insights to refine social strategy, sharing back with internal teams

  • Analyze data to inform strategic decisions, set up KPIs, and monitor and optimize how we’re tracking toward those goals

  • Manage and implement tactics to grow our social media channels

  • Monitor and work on prescribed responses, if necessary, to brand or community detractors in social channels

Minimum Qualifications

  • Deep expertise as both social creator and strategist

  • Managed high-visibility/high profile accounts for top brand or organization

  • Self-starter, strong collaborator and effective communicator across all levels

  • Background in or knowledge of open source software, open source hardware, open source standards, and cybersecurity, etc.

  • Excellent copywriter, can adapt style and voice across different domains and communities, with strong attention to detail

  • Real passion for social media and a hunger for knowledge/intellectually curious

  • Proven understanding of social media metrics and reporting

  • Experience with social media management tools, such as Hubspot, Sprinklr, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or Social Studio

  • Understanding of the social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, and experience using both paid and organic strategies

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills; should feel comfortable with data analysis and be able to use data to make decisions and tell a story

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Prior experience collaborating with and managing across functions/vendors, detail oriented, ensuring project deadlines are met
