Job Description

Who We Are

The Compute team serves Twitter engineering by providing a productive, reliable, and efficient compute platform. Our infrastructure underpins most of the stateless microservices behind Twitter.com, Twitter’s revenue-generating businesses, and a variety of internal infrastructure. Twitter’s 1,000+ engineers use our platform to launch and operate their services on a fleet of over 100,000 physical machines in our data centers and a rapidly growing footprint in the public cloud.

We have begun an ambitious journey to support stateful services on the Compute Platform. Today those services, including Twitter’s core storage services like Manhattan, Graph, and Blobstore, operate directly on bare-metal hardware, placing a large operational burden on those teams and leading to under utilized hardware. Our strategy is to support these services in a managed multi-tenant Kubernetes environment that spans a hybrid platform across the data center and public cloud.

The Senior Engineering Manager for the Compute for Storage team will:

  • Lead the strategy for supporting stateful services on the new Kubernetes- based platform and for driving the migration of existing services onto the platform.

  • Lead the strategy for supporting stateful services in a hybrid private and public cloud environment.

  • Build strong relationships with partner teams and with public cloud vendors and communicate fearlessly with them to build trust.

  • Build and foster open, collaborative relationships with peer companies and the Kubernetes OSS community.

  • Drive the sharing of our work through blog posts, meetups, and papers.
