The Societal Health team is tasked with safeguarding the public conversation against some of the most complex and urgent problems that Twitter faces across Misinformation, Terrorism and Violent Extremist Groups, and Civic Integrity. Protecting and empowering Twitter’s users to deal with these problem areas is important and deeply rewarding work. We are a tightly-knit and mission driven group with diverse backgrounds and we are looking for exceptional Android engineers to join our team.

What You’ll Do

As part of Societal Health’s Android team you'll be building both brand new experiences along with improving existing core experiences in service of improving user safety and trust and resilience to misinformation and other harmful content.

Our work is deeply cross-functional and building strong relationships across Product, User Research, Design, Data Science, and cross platform engineering teams will be critical to the success of this role. As Twitter continues to serve as one of the most important communication tools in the world, the need for focusing on the Health of the platform increases. Our work contributes to Twitter's mission to give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers. 

Qualifications

Who You Are

  • You have a deep interest in the spread, impact and mitigation of misinformation, terrorist or violent extremist group content in social media.

  • You have experience with or are interested in learning about adversarial problem spaces.

  • You’ve held product engineering roles, and have experience translating complex requirements into scalable, extensible implementations with an eye toward maximizing reuse.

  • You are familiar with standard software engineering methodology, e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation.

  • You have experience in software development and executing using agile / scrum methodologies.

  • You are familiar with the best practices of system and online service design - e.g. monitoring and observability, making informed performance trade-offs, maintainability and extensibility, etc.

  • You know when it’s okay to take on technical debt, and you eventually pay it down.

  • You are interested in working closely with a diverse, multi-functional team.

  • You think critically about users’ and partner teams’ needs and can distill those findings into features and products.

  • You ground your decisions with data and reasoning and can adapt to new information to make informed choices.

  • You enjoy working in a collaborative environment and interact effectively with others.

  • You bring thoughtful perspectives, empathy, creativity, and a positive attitude to solve problems at scale.

  • You’re willing to be mentored and to mentor others.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, or a related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
