Sunak row pushes Infosys to pull out of Russia
BENGALURU: Infosys is moving services from Russia to its other global delivery centres, sources told TOI. It has less than 100 employees in the country. When TOI asked Infosys about it, the company said, “We do not have any comments. ” Last week, UK chancellor of the exchequer, Rishi Sunak, came under pressure for having links with Russia through his wife and Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy’s daughter Akshata Murty’s stake in India’s second largest IT services firm.

Sunak had denied profiting from Russian President Putin’s regime when Sky News quizzed him on the links with Infosys through the stake his wife Murty holds. The stake is worth just short of $1 billion. Sunak, who drew a parallel with the Will Smith episode at the Oscars, told BBC Newscast, “Joe Root, Will Smith and me, not the best of weekends. But on reflection, both Will Smith and me, having our wives attacked, at least I didn’t get up and slap anybody, which is good. ”
Last week, Infosys said it doesn’t have any active business relationships with local Russian enterprises. It also said that the company supports peace between Russia and Ukraine. “At this point we do not foresee any impact on delivery or services for our clients from our Eastern European centres and have activated necessary business continuity protocols. Infosys has a small team of less than 100 employees based out of Russia. . . The company has committed $1 million towards relief efforts for the victims of war from Ukraine,” Infosys told TOIin a statement last week.
