Job Description

Who We Are

The Client UI team consists of Twitter's experts in UI/UX design and implementation, providing the company the capability to quickly build consistent, high-quality experiences for our customers. Our mission is:

  • To enable feature teams to ship faster by providing and maintaining robust, accessible UI frameworks and components that can be used to both prototype and implement features.

  • To deliver a fast, consistent, inclusive, and modern experience to customers of Twitter by implementing system-wide UI that leverages each platform’s unique strengths.

Client UI is a team within Client Foundation, which is part of the broader Twitter mobile engineering team responsible for bringing you all the features of Twitter for iOS. Our teams love using the latest mobile technologies and tools for making the highest quality and best performing mobile app. We work on the infrastructural layers of the app - the core frameworks, APIs, and tools that empower our feature engineers to do their best work. We solve complicated problems that are unique to both the scale of our customer base and the size of the engineering organization we support.

Our work is an integral part of Twitter’s product vision and directly impacts the lives of our users and the success of our business. It impacts hundreds of millions of users and brings with it exciting product and technical challenges at that scale. We keep development lightweight and agile, make data driven decisions, and release with high quality and velocity. Come be a part of our team!

What You’ll Do

We believe passion and personality matter. As such, we need someone who can lead diverse, smart, and driven engineers while balancing personnel challenges with business requirements.

As an Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Mentor the professional development of each direct report through personal and performance management.

  • Be an ambitious source of engineering talent and be comfortable closing candidates.

  • Give engineers the tools, confidence, and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to the recognition of your engineers and not just yourself.

Our ultimate goal is to ‘ship it,’ so it’s imperative that our engineering managers:

  • Own the group’s technical strategy and roadmap – creating success metrics in close collaboration with other Engineering and Product Managers.

  • Bring a strong perspective that inspires change and motivates engineers to develop simple solutions to sophisticated problems.

  • Work with tech leads, senior engineers, partners, and customers to capture requirements and synthesize solutions

Who You Are:

  • You have experience leading Client Engineering teams, ideally with some experience managing client infrastructure/foundation teams

  • You’ve built strategies and led projects and you know how to build alignment across a set of cross-functional peers.

  • You are experienced with software engineering methodologies and bring disciplined approaches to testing, software quality, and driving reductions in technical debt.

  • You have experience leading engineers at all levels and you’re skilled at coaching and guiding your direct reports through their career development.

  • You can clearly articulate desired outcomes. You make your arguments based on facts and data, but understand how to value and include intuition in the decision-making process.

Qualifications

  • Previous engineering management experience

  • You're happy working within a distributed work environment, collaborating across time zones and cultures
