Dear Freelancer Mag Fan

One of the songs I associate with Freelancer Magazine is Around the World by Daft Punk. It was the first song that DJs Dom C and Mary Rose played at our launch party. Little did I know that within a few months, Freelancer Magazine would be winging its way to 25 countries (and counting) worldwide.

#AskLinkedIn

We asked, "What does growth mean to you for your freelance business?"

/PassiveIncomeForBusiness
The best thing is realising that there really is a whole (massive!) world out there. It’s very easy to get caught in a limited bubble, a narrow echo chamber that feels restrictive. I find international clients a good reminder of my business' potential to grow beyond the familiar.
/Vikki-Hone
The biggest challenge for me is always time zone related. Doesn't seem to matter that the online calendars sort it all out; I'm still surprised when the reminder pops up - I'm forever two hours out of sync 🙄 😂
/FreyaeSwensonCostello
The best thing is reaching new markets and audiences. I love how I can always learn from different cultures and experience far corners of the world from my desk.
/BereniceHowardSmith
The best is cultural exchanges. Not all colours, fonts or images work across the world so I have to be mindful of that in my design work. It can also be the worst thing as sometimes I’m reminded that other people are excluded from information and freedoms that I take for granted.

Remembering to say “Morning!” when I’ve just had my afternoon snack…

Dear Freelancer Mag Fan,

One of the songs I associate with Freelancer Magazine is Around the World by Daft Punk. It was the first song that DJs Dom C and Mary Rose played at our launch party. Little did I know that within a few months, Freelancer Magazine would be winging its way to 25 countries (and counting) worldwide.

In December, it was awesome to get to host our first-ever in-person party in London, partnering with IPSE. A big Christmas party for people who don’t normally get a Christmas party. And, of course, we had to have DJs Dom C and Mary Rose. We will be doing the same again this year and we’d love to have you there.

The only bad thing about in-person parties is that they aren’t so good for accessibility, especially for our readers outside England and the UK.

I love our virtual coworking for that reason, and we’re always getting people from lots of different countries there. It’s now running four times a week as we’ve added a new timezone with our 4-6pm (UK time) session.

We’re hoping this issue will honour our freelance community around the world and that, as always, you’ll learn loads from people who are doing it a bit differently from you. And that you’ll grow your global freelance network by reaching out and connecting with one another and coming along to our events.

💛 & 🌮

Sophie
