The odds are long for DraftKings

Punters like an accumulator. An all-or-nothing six-timer, say, based on every nag going in. Or the footie sort: score, first goalscorer, number of corners, winner at half-time, total goals, which muppet will get sent off. That sort of thing.

So how nice of DraftKings to produce the M&A equivalent with its £16.4 billion “stock and cash” tilt at the Ladbrokes, Coral and Partypoker owner Entain. Its mooted bid has more moving parts than the wildest multiple bet — not least because it’s got little control over the main event: the deal it needs to do with US rival MGM Resorts International to get any bid over the line. Yes, the Entain board, chaired by Barry Gibson, says it “will carefully consider” DraftKings’ proposal. But how
