Cool Job of the Week McDowell Environmental Center is making the world a better place by educating tomorrow's leaders about the natural world. Instructors teach classes that are hands-on and minds-on, giving students the greatest opportunity to learn about themselves and better understand our environment. Responsibilities include teaching groups of up to 10-12 students from a variety of age levels and backgrounds on topics that include geology, forest ecology, map & compass skills, earth science, aquatic ecology, Indigenous history, canoeing, team building, and high ropes. Compensation includes pay starting at $350/week (with seasonal raises), all meals, private rooms with shared kitchen, large screened-in porches (with rocking chairs!), laundry facilities, WiFi access, pro-deals, and an intensive two-week paid staff training. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Cool Job of the Week Connecting people to nature and each other through transformative outdoor experiences, Eagle Bluff is Southern Minnesota’s premier outdoor learning center. As one of 11 participants in this year-long residential fellowship, Environmental Education Fellows develop teaching, interpretive, and public relations techniques rooted in principles of environmental education. Fellows are exposed to a wide variety of audiences through instructing hands-on, experiential, and inquiry-based adventure, science, and cultural history classes. Professional growth and learning are accomplished through direct teaching experience supported by staff, professional workshops, and a series of observations and evaluations. Benefits include a $1,000/month stipend, dorm-style housing in a staff wing (with private room in shared suite and common living room), meals when visiting groups are in residence, food staples for the staff kitchen, significant PTO, several holidays, personal voicemail, WiFi access, staff gear + pro deals, and use of Eagle Bluff’s recreational equipment. Participants also have the option to earn a postgraduate certificate in environmental education from Hamline University.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, excited about facilitating positive, outdoor experiences for students of all ages and backgrounds, and able to make a commitment from August 12th, 2024 to August 1st, 2025. Cool Job of the Week With a summer staff of 25 in charge of working with just 42 at-risk boys (10-18 years of age) during each of two summer sessions, you’ll be an integral part of a uniquely supportive and cohesive community on a 50-acre island in New Hampshire. Mayhew boys all come from disadvantaged backgrounds (low-income, single-parent homes) and participate tuition-free. Summer staff will help promote the development of improved self-esteem and behavior, healthier peer interactions, goal setting skills and a strong sense of belonging for the boys. While the work can be fatiguing and emotionally draining, the positive and meaningful experience created at Mayhew is rich beyond measure. Tangible benefits include compensation of $4,500 plus a $1,000 summer completion bonus, room & board, and lots of great home cooking served family-style.

Elements Wilderness Program Mentors blend community, well-being, adventure education and therapy into every wilderness experience.

Join the Elements field team as you create deep bonds with clients and create a life-changing, challenging and fun wilderness experience!

Cool Job of the Week Elements Wilderness Program works with assigned male at birth adolescents (13-17 years of age) and young adults of both genders (18+) who are struggling to lives their lives in healthy, productive ways. From the initial training onward, Field Mentors are given the skills they need to utilize the wilderness, meaningful relationships, and evidence-based treatment models in effective and engaging ways. While in the field, Mentors teach outdoor living skills, facilitate adventure activities like climbing, rappelling, fly fishing, stand-up paddle boarding, low ropes initiatives, and mountain biking. Field Mentors also run therapeutic groups, check in with clients 1-on-1, practice mindfulness and other Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills, and generally role-model what it means to be a healthy adult. Mentors work 8-days-on followed by 6-days-off, giving you almost 150 days off a year! Compensation starts at $175/day, with the opportunity to move up to $240/day and up to $1,100 in other bonuses within the first year.
