Namco Famicom collections out on Switch

Dispensing with the confusing history of its “NAMCOT” label, Namco released two sets of Famicom games on Switch today for $20 each. These are all, specifically, the Famicom/NES versions of these games, rather than arcade. And there are some very interesting choices! Like Game Freak’s first game, Mendel Palace!

Volume 1 contains Galaxian, Pac-Man, Xevious, Mappy, Dig Dug, The Tower of Druaga, Sky Kid, Dragon Buster, Dragon Spirit: The New Legend, Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, and a new NES version of Pac-Man Championship Edition.

Volume 2 contains Galaga, Battle City, Pac-Land, Dig Dug II, Super Xevious, Mappy-Land, Legacy of the Wizard, Rolling Thunder, Dragon Buster II, Mendel Palace, and a new NES Gaplus.

This will be the first US release of the bizarre chibi Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, and it’s cute and I’m going to play it.

Speaking of interesting choices, this set was released as free apps in Japan with games sold individually as DLC. I’ll get those versions too for different games, but I can’t right now, because they sold the wrong games.
