Any Given Tuesday: A Political Love Story Audio CD – Unabridged, July 19, 2022

New York Times Bestseller
An irreverent look behind the scenes of American politics from one of the most sought-after operatives in the Democratic Party
Lis Smith isn't your average political strategist and Any Given Tuesday isn't your typical political memoir. At once a revealing look at human nature at the highest levels of power and an intimate portrayal of a sometimes rocky personal journey, it breaks all the rules. Smith doesn't pretend to be perfect -- she owns the controversial choices that landed her in the tabloids, as well as the unorthodox ones that have paid off and defined her successful career.
Any Given Tuesday follows Smith from her earliest experiences as a college-aged intern to her days as a trusted adviser and confidante to some of the most high-profile politicians in the country -- including her star turn as senior adviser on Pete Buttigieg's 2020 presidential campaign. Animated by Smith's love for the hand-to-hand combat of politics and sustained by her deeply-held belief that it's still possible to effect positive change, it's an odyssey full of highs and lows and larger-than-life characters. Throughout, Smith shows what it's really like behind the curtain: what happens when the lights go down and the cameras turn off, how it feels to be in the eye of the political media storm, and how the people responsible for heady, life and death decisions are as flawed as the rest of us.
While the journey hasn't always been smooth, Lis Smith has seen and learned a lot -- and she shares it all in this eye-opening, entertaining memoir.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2022Loved the book and she has led an amazing life. Ms. Smith is someone to admire. I loved her honesty, her perseverance in regard for her clients and her commitment to her career. Generally, this is a book for fans of politics, Ms. Smith, Terry McAuliffe and, my favorite, Mayor Pete. It's a little long but a delicious and self-revealing memoir from a courageous and insightful author.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2022I really enjoyed this breezy, entertaining, often hilarious read. Lis Smith has an easy writing style that makes this political memoir -- a genre not always known for its readability -- addictive reading.
I'm someone who greatly admires Pete Buttigieg -- and I remember well those thrilling days in spring 2019 when he first came to national prominence. I found myself totally caught up in the story at the time (even spending $250 to see Pete in person at a small fundraiser), and thus it was exciting to read the story from the inside perspective in this book. Most of the facts here are now well known, but I enjoyed seeing the story unfold from Smith's point of view.
I asked myself at first why Lis Smith decided to write this candid, not-always-flattering-to-her memoir, at the ripe old age of 40, when she has a long career ahead of her. I came to believe that it's to set the stage for another Pete presidential run, whether in 2024 or beyond. I decided that she wants to come clean on her side of things, warts and all, especially re her work with Andrew Cuomo, so she can have all that behind her when she manages Pete's campaign again. Please don't disabuse me of this notion if I'm wrong, because I really want to be right.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2022After seeing Lis Smith interviewed on a morning talk show to promote this book i decided to take a chance and purchase it. Any Given Tuesday is a real page turner.
For starters, anyone whose musical tastes range from Radiohead to Toby Keith should have a fascinating story to tell. I don't want to give away any surprises here , but if you are an amateur political junkie and enjoy reading about a strong woman with a take no prisoners approach ( and a devilish sense of humor) you will most likely plow though this book as I did. Truly a 5 star read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2022Political books intrigue me, and Any Given Tuesday never disappoints. Lis Smith provides a back stage view of several extraordinary political campaigns. The anecdotes bring smiles. She gives particular insight into the Pete Buttigeig campaign. Her writing style is funny and rollicking. For political junkies, this is a must-read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2022I learned nothing after reading this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2022Insightful glimpse into political campaigns. It shows the commitment and tenacity of the author.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2022Lis has had backstage access to some of the most intense political contests in recent American history, and the reader gets the rare chance to be in the room where it happens right there with her. Love the candid, raw, and funny way that Lis describes her political adventures. Finished in less than a day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow
I really enjoyed Lis Smith’s political autobiography. Her writing is excellent and she pulls no punches, even in relating parts of her career that have been personally hurtful. It was also great to have a look behind the scenes into the world of political operatives from a woman’s perspective. The chapters on Pete Buttigieg were stellar.
