Last Friday, President Biden was asked if he had a message for Facebook on the impact of vaccine misinformation on its platform. "They're killing people," Biden replied.
“ Facebook is "still programming its algorithms to send users down rabbit holes of anti-vax propaganda." Specifically, "Facebook continues to recommend broad networks of anti-vaccine and health misinformation pages to users."
Biden should not have walked back his statements toward Facebook.
Is it any surprise that a typically profit driven greedy corporation like Facebook would turn away money making misinformation that just so happens to kill people? Spreading lies, misinformation, racism, misogynistic views, violence, anti vaccination propaganda and lying Republican rhetoric is just too popular for them to refuse. Zuckerberg taking YEARS to ban Trump is just one small example of his reluctance to exhibit an ounce of integrity. Hitler and his fascist friends would have had a field day on Facebook.
Yet FB banned the Crock Pot Heaven group for 15 days. SMH. America's Caesar Zuck punishes with a mean fist. I mean, Mississippi Pot Roast recipes are a threat.
Thank you, Judd. Early in this pandemic, my friend texted me with a wish to "stay sane." It has been a far more difficult task than I could have anticipated. Facebook - whether consciously or not - amplifies fear. When fear tightens its grip, people will be vulnerable to exploitation and will follow any leader. Then we end up with a society of angry toddlers. Facebook is a monster, and now that it's making a fortune for its creators, there is no one left to slay it but us.
I hardly ever used it anyway, so I deleted my FB account. I think the only way to let FB know we do not appreciate its algorithms is to simply delete our accounts. Sadly, some of the good social media actually does will be lost, but there are other ways to network and keep in touch, like maybe good old fashioned letter writing. I'm not against progress, but also a believer that the means never justifies the end.

If a post/group/person is identified as toxic on FB why would it not be toxic on Instagram? They are owned by the same people.
Additionally, why TF has the FDA/CDC not given a full throated 100% approval for the GD vaccines? This could tamp down some logical people’s concerns; not anti-Vaxers to be sure but its what is expected and the purpose of the organizations. The Fkng approved a verifiably unproven drug for Alzheimer’s.
I know someone who's a fairly prominent anti-vaxxer and she and her friends and visitors to her Facebook page swap and discuss anti-vax "facts" and stories using clues. For instance, they never say "vaccination"-- they say {'ation}. How could Facebook keep up with THAT?
