El Salvador buys 21 more bitcoins to mark last ‘21st’ of 2021
El Salvador added 21 more bitcoins on December 21 to mark and celebrate the last ‘21st’ of December, 2021. The country has bought 1,391 bitcoins so far. President Nayib Bukele announced in a tweet on December 21 that the entire country of 21,000 square km would be buying 21 bitcoins on the 21st day of December at 21: 00 hours. He continued the tweet by posting a receipt of BTC purchase transactions that made a total of 21 bitcoins.

The total reserve of 1391 Bitcoins has been earned after a series of purchases ever since the adoption of the crypto as legal tender in September:
El Salvador has been stacking Bitcoins since the country made the crypto legal tender alongside the US dollar on September 7. Its purchases have been in this way :
  • El Salvador bought 400 BTCs on September 6 ,before the legal adoption of Bitcoin and 150 BTCs on September 7.
  • On September 20, it bought a dip of 150 BTCs, and had a total of 700 BTCs.
  • On October 28, Bukele announced buying 420 bitcoins taking advantage of Bitcoin's price slump at that time.
  • On November 29, the country added 100 more Bitcoins to its reserve.
  • Bukele announced purchase of another 150 BTC on December 7, following the dip taking the total bitcoin stock to 1,370.
  • With the 21 BTC bought on Dec 21, the total purchases amount to 1,391 BTC.
In November, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had warned El Salvador from continuing Bitcoin as legal tender because of the risks associated with it. IMF warning followed a day after President Bukele had announced his ambitions to build a Bitcoin City.
