With just over six months left for India’s general election, Facebook-owned messenger service WhatsApp has been cleaning up its platform in the country. An ongoing exercise to fight spam, abuse, and misuse of its platform has resulted in nearly 250,000 to 300,000 India-based accounts being blocked and deleted, according to multiple persons aware of the development.
