Position Description

THE DEPARTMENT

The Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) develops and implements citywide environmental policies and programs that propel our city toward a sustainable, equitable, and carbon neutral future. OSE is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. THE JOB

OSE is recruiting a Clean Heat Program Coordinator (a full-time Sunset position which is budgeted until July 31, 2026) where you would play a pivotal role facilitating the transition from fossil fuel heating and other appliances to clean energy solutions.   

We are looking for applicants with:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • An understanding of energy efficient heating and appliance options that homeowners can transition to
  • Knowledge of incentive/rebate programs and how interactions and outreach can be leveraged to increase participation
  • Motivation to share information accessibly, using a variety of formats to help audiences who have varying degrees of knowledge 
  • A focus on program improvement, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data to determine adjustments that will benefit homeowners and installers while improving environmental justice goals and lowering fossil fuel usage

To be effective in this role, you have:

  • Managed programs or projects, ensuring coordination and implementation 
  • Worked with internal and external partners to serve low income households
  • Worked with and overseen a 3rd party vendor, including tracking work and invoicing
  • Planned, developed, and implemented marketing and outreach campaigns using in-person events, web page updates, email newsletters, etc.
  • Managed budgets and optimized program’s reach and resources
  • Provided timely and accurate information on program details, technology and appliance options, and troubleshooting with contractors, distributors, and installers
  • Worked with partners to coordinate, elevate, and promote program supports, such as community lending partners for financing, fire department for decommissioning oil tanks, etc.
  • Developed a program dashboard to report metrics to internal and external stakeholders
  • Analyzed program data to identify trends, participation rates, and geographic patterns
  • Communicated learnings and recommendations to inform program changes and improvements

Qualifications

In addition to the qualities mentioned above, you will need to possess the below required qualifications (or a combination of experience, training or education which provides an equivalent background required to perform the job):

Four years of experience in planning and research related to environmental issues, conservation, land use, urban economics, human services or other work directly related to City planning and development activities; 

OR

Three years of experience in planning and research related to environmental issues, conservation, land use, urban economics, human services or other work directly related to City planning and development activities and an associate degree in environmental studies, planning, urban design, public administration or a related field

OR

Two years of experience in planning and research related to environmental issues, conservation, land use, urban economics, human services or other work directly related to City planning and development activities and a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, planning, urban design, public administration or a related field

Additional Information

This position is classified as a Planning & Development Specialist II – BU and is represented by PROTEC17 – Professional Unit.   It is a Sunset position which is budgeted until July 31, 2026. The salary range for this classification is $41.66 - $48.48 per hour.
