The campaign to condemn Kyle Rittenhouse in the court of public opinion

.

There is a concerted propaganda campaign underway to condemn Kyle Rittenhouse as a white supremacist and domestic terrorist.

There is no evidence for any such thing. In fact, the testimony produced this week in Rittenhouse’s trial suggests these characterizations are just plain false.

That hasn’t stopped Democratic politicians and various celebrities from making the claim.

Rittenhouse is accused of shooting three white protesters last year during the Black Lives Matter riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, killing two. The 18-year-old Illinoisan, who claims he was in Kenosha armed with a rifle as part of an effort to protect local businesses from looters, argues he acted in self-defense. One of the three men Rittenhouse shot, the one who survived, even testified this week that Rittenhouse fired at him only after he pointed a gun at the 18-year-old.

Despite the testimony and everything we’ve known since at least last fall, leftists are hellbent on smearing this young man as a white supremacist terrorist — something which, again, will still not be true even if he is convicted in the shootings.

The most curious example of this effort to convict Rittenhouse in the court of public opinion, regardless of the outcome of the trial, appears in the form of a simple phrase uttered first by United Nations representative Mohamad Safa and repeated verbatim by multiple celebrities and left-wing activists, as if all in concert.

“I want to live in a country where Colin Kaepernick is seen as a hero and Kyle Rittenhouse is seen as a terrorist,” Safa said, referring, of course, to the washed-up NFL player-turned-social justice publicity-seeker.

This is where it gets weird.

“I want to live in a country where Colin Kaepernick is seen as a hero and Kyle Rittenhouse is seen as a terrorist,” said former Star Trek actor LeVar Burton.

Added Morgan J. Freeman (the producer, not the actor), “I want to live in a country where Colin Kaepernick is seen as a hero and Kyle Rittenhouse is seen as a terrorist.”

“I want to live in a country where Colin Kaepernick is seen as a hero and Kyle Rittenhouse is seen as a terrorist,” said actress Rosanna Arquette.

There’s more, but you get the point. These aren’t simply similar sentiments. It’s the exact same phrase, passed around on social media from one celebrity to the next, without even a slight variation in the text or tone. It would make some sense had the original message included a “pass it on,” but it didn’t. They’re simply repeating the same message, almost as if there was a memo instructing them all to say the same thing.

It’s worth noting that this dronish effort to condemn Rittenhouse as a domestic terrorist, potentially libelous if false, comes after several Democratic representatives took it upon themselves to play the role of judge and jury, convicting the 18-year-old of being not just a terrorist but also a white supremacist.

“A 17-year-old white supremacist domestic terrorist drove across state lines,” said Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, “armed with an AR 15. He shot and killed 2 people who had assembled to affirm the value, dignity, and worth of Black lives.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota added elsewhere, “A domestic terrorist executed two people, and according to [Fox News’s Tucker Carlson] and his supporters this is ‘maintaining order.’ Their murderous rants have inspired many mass shooters and now they aren’t even trying to distance themselves from it, they are excusing it. God help us.”

“Does anyone believe Rittenhouse would be released if he were Muslim & did the same thing in a diff context?” asked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York following news Rittenhouse had been released from custody after posting $2 million for bail. “For people who say ‘systemic racism doesn’t exist,’ this is what it looks like: protection of white supremacy baked deep into our carceral systems. Law and disorder.”

It’s apparently too much to ask that we wait to see what the jury has to say about the matter.

Good luck with your life, Kyle. Even if the court finds you innocent, left-wing activists are working hard to guarantee you’ll be treated not only as a guilty man, but also as a white supremacist terrorist for the rest of your life.
