Raymond van Barneveld collapses and receives paramedic attention during PDC Players Championship

The Professional Darts Corporation has been forced to suspend all games in the Players Championship 8 event at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, after Raymond van Barneveld's collapse

Darts star Raynomd van Barneveld has collapsed and received paramedic attention at the PDC Darts' Player Championship 8 event.


The five-time world champion's collapse saw play get suspended on Friday afternoon at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes.


He had just been knocked out in the first round for a third successive day in Milton Keynes, losing to Ryan Searle 6-1 on the third day.


But the 53-year-old did not need a trip to hospital, instead returning to his hotel room.

A statement from PDC reads: "Raymond van Barneveld received medical treatment following a collapse at Friday’s Players Championship 8.

"Van Barneveld was defeated in the first round of the PDC Super Series 2 event in Milton Keynes, and later required medical assistance after becoming unwell in the arena.

"He was treated by paramedics but has not required hospital treatment, an returned to his hotel room at the Marshall Arena to be further monitored.

"Play was suspended whilst Van Barneveld received treatment before resuming at 1445 GMT."

Van Barneveld had lost in the first two days of play to Luke Humphries and Mervyn King, recording just one victory against Matthew Edgar on Thursday.


World No.1 Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton had won the last two events, with both of them scooping the £10,000 prize.

PDC have posted on Twitter that they will be providing further updates "in due course".

The tournament is the eighth day of a 30-day ProTour which takes place across the calendar year, ending with the Finals.

And this even was the fourth and last in the Super Series 2.

Last year's at Championship Players 8, which took place in Barnsley, was won by current No.12 Ian White as he saw off James Wade 8-3.
