Hypocritical COVID politicians want lockdown for you, but not them

Forever pandemic for thee but not for me?

Over the weekend, footage surfaced of Matt Meyer, president of the Berkeley Federation of Teachers, taking his daughter to pre-school. What should be an innocuous happening is actually monumental since Meyer has blocked a return to school for the other children of Berkeley arguing that school is “unsafe.”

Meyer responded to the video saying “I have my two-year-old in preschool. Unfortunately, there are not public schools for kids her age.”

If there were public schools for two year olds, she would be home and not in school specifically because of people like her father.

For much of the last year, elites like Meyer have behaved however they wanted while forcing the rest of us to stop our lives.

A year into this pandemic, we’ve seen all kinds of COVID hypocrites. Sen. Dianne Feinstein pushed for national mask mandates but was frequently spotted maskless. Governor Gavin Newsom dined at the most expensive restaurant in America and sent his kids to in-person private school while enacting some of the most draconian lockdowns in the country.

Politicians like Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer told us not to see our families on Thanksgiving but then partied maskless in crowds for President Joe Biden’s victory or even traveled to other states to celebrate.

Governor Andrew Cuomo flew to Georgia to “help” them fight COVID, hugged a bunch of people while maskless, all while telling New Yorkers to mask up and stay home.

All of these people have been collecting a salary while arbitrarily closing businesses. None of them have had to explain why more open states are having the same or better results in fighting the virus than their closed states. The rules are for the little people.

It’s not just politicians who will have us living in a forever pandemic while taking passes for themselves or their friends.

On Friday, CNN’s resident medical expert Dr. Sanjay Gupta was asked if the decrease in COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths meant that states should loosen restrictions on things like indoor dining. You’d think yes, right? But of course not for you regular folk. Dr. Gupta said “it’s not a good idea” for states to relax as “we’re still very much in the middle of this.”

Putting aside that many states have already relaxed restrictions for some time, here’s a reminder that Gupta once did a TV segment with Chris Cuomo who two days prior had been caught on video breaking quarantine while actually sick with COVID-19. Gupta gently talked to Cuomo about his symptoms.

He did not criticize Cuomo for risking the lives of others by going out, but nearly a year later he’s still pushing the idea that you, plebes, should stay home. Some people can do what they want, others get Gupta’s furrowed brow and admonishment .

As we enter the second year of living with the COVID-19 virus, we’re seeing the people who have been loudest in scaring Americans into submission, while openly flouting restrictions themselves or giving their friends a pass, pushing the idea that we have to live like this long-term. We don’t.

Mass vaccinations will bring a new day even if power-mad politicians, hypocrite union leaders or fame-hungry TV doctors pretend otherwise. Get the shot and let’s move on, no matter what the COVID hypocrites say.
