Tom Brady’s NFT platform Autograph partners with Lionsgate, DraftKings

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is beefing up his NFT platform Autograph with deals to launch movie content with Hollywood studio Lionsgate and sports-related tokens with sports betting site Draftkings.

The startup is also adding a slew of big-name athletes to its advisory board, including Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretsky, Derek Jeter, Naomi Osaka and Tony Hawk.

NFT stands for non-fungible token, a unique digital asset that has risen in popularity as a collectible, like a digital stamp. NFTs can come in many forms, such as trading cards, works of art, musical performances or movie stills — and have been selling for millions of dollars in some cases.

Hollywood studio Lionsgate said Wednesday that it will launch NFTs in conjunction with Autograph tied to blockbuster films like “John Wick,” “Twilight,” “The Hunger Games,” “Mad Men” and “Dirty Dancing.”

The first entertainment properties will hit this fall, according to Lionsgate executive vice president and global live interactive head Jenefer Brown, who added that NFTs “present a tremendous opportunity for mixed-reality world building experiences.”

Autograph will then debut its first sports-related NFTs tied to DraftKings Marketplace, an e-commerce site that lets people with a Draftkings account buy, sell and trade digital collectibles.

“The NFT boom has reinvented the collectibles industry and driven excitement to early-adopting audiences worldwide,” said Matt Kalish, DraftKings co-founder and president. “This initial vision in collaboration with Autograph… is a vital first step as we enter the emergent NFT market.”
