Man-made debris in orbit is a looming threat to the well being of our current infrastructure and to future space missions/exploration. Collisional cascading or the Kessler Syndrome continues to keep debris propagating in earth orbit even if we stop launching things into space entirely. In short, space junk is a real issue for us all. Kessler Syndrome is chock full of interviews with leading scientists, and tons of footage from the Intentional Space Station, and has some great information on the issue of space junk.
