Trump says Democrats ‘want to take away your freedom’ in Twitter video

President Trump said in a video on Twitter Saturday that a push by Congressional Democrats to impeach him, “is the single greatest scam in the history of American politics.”

“The Democrats want to take away your guns, they want to take away your health care, they want to take away your vote, they want to take away your freedom,” Trump said in the video, which was shot outside the White House.

“They want to take away everything. We can never let this happen,” he said. “We’re fighting to drain the swamp, and that’s exactly what I’m doing.”

The video dropped as a new NPR-PBS NewsHour-Marist poll found that 49 percent of responding supported impeachment  — up 10 percent from April poll results.

Democrats last week announced an impeachment inquiry, arguing the president violated his oath of office by asking Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.

Hunter Biden served on the board of a controversial gas company in the Ukraine.

Trump has insisted there was nothing sinister in his phone conversation with Zelensky, and has called Democrats “savages” for pushing the issue.

“It’s all very simple,” Trump said in the Twitter video Saturday. “They’re trying to  stop me because I’m fighting for you, and I’ll never let that happen.”
