This is a special edition of Freelance Writing Jobs to announce some upcoming changes to the newsletter, this week's jobs will arrive in your inbox later today.
Well this is unusual! In a change to your regularly scheduled programming, I'm emailing to tell you about something brand new for Freelance Writing Jobs.

Starting from next week's issue, I'm introducing a Priority Membership for £3 a month via Ko-Fi.

Priority Members will receive the newsletter 24 hours early. It'll go out to you on Wednesdays and give you the quickest access to the best calls for pitches, jobs, writing opportunities, as well as listings directly from editors that you won't find elsewhere. The same email will then go out to regular subscribers on Thursdays.

Priority Memberships isn't a paywall. The same listings in the weekly email will be accessible to every subscriber. A Priority Membership gives you early access, not exclusive content.

Why a new membership? As nervous as I am about admitting it, the newsletter isn't making enough money to run anymore. Actually, it's costing me money. My subscriber numbers took a huge leap during the pandemic and while I was thrilled to be able to help so many more people find freelance work, it's meant a big increase in my newsletter provider fees – they're now hundreds of pounds each month. I no longer have a regular advertiser and while I've always had an ad-hoc donation option and I'm thrilled when people hit that button, the maths just isn't working.

I hope that offering a Priority Membership will stop me from shutting Freelance Writing Jobs.

The newsletter takes a day to pull together and that work is so much more than sharing job listings. A lot of my time is spent working directly with editors to push rates up and disclosing pay ranges. I secure low-income entry options for writing competitions, and help shape better opportunities for underrepresented writers.

I believe in this work. It's vital to improving our industry and strengthening the freelance community.

I also want to ensure that I can keep the Freelance Writing Jobs Fund running. It's run for two years now, and I've given mentoring and over £1300 to writers when they needed it most.

My audience isn't small and there's a lot of responsibility that comes with it. I want to do good where I can. I want our creative industries to treat freelancers better. My aim since I hit send on my first newsletter in 2018 is to make life easier for freelance writers.

So I'm doing what I'd tell any freelance writer to do: I'm making a positive and practical change to keep going.

I hope that you find value in a Priority Membership – just choose the monthly membership option on Ko-Fi and you'll be added to the list from next week's issue. There's no annual fee, you can pause or cancel whenever you like.

You can also sponsor a membership slot for a writer on a low income – just drop me a line if you'd like to do that.

I've written a more detailed post about Premium Membership on Medium, and you can always reply directly to this newsletter if your question isn't answered there.

I'm really excited for this change to Freelance Writing Jobs and I hope you are, too. Thanks for being such a brilliant community. I'll be back this afternoon with this week's jobs listings.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge at the time I hit send but is subject to change. Sometimes listings get removed or come down early. I'm just the messenger – I have no further details about any of the listings and emails requesting extra info or alternative contact details will be deleted. I'm not a personal recruiter – not every listing will be right for you, just move on and go about your day. Anything boxed out at the top of the email is a paid-for advert, and I only work with companies I really like. Sometimes I use affiliate links which don't cost you anything but do help pay for the running costs of the newsletter. I really, really like Fox's Crunch Creams.
