The Embassy of Sweden have been steady partners for the documentary and investigative journalism we do at Chude Jideonwo Presents, for which I am thankful. So it was a pleasure to sit with the ambassador, Annika Hahn-Englund for an exclusive conversation as she concludes her very successful multiple-highlights 3-year tenure as envoy to Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, and ECOWAS. We discussed disinformation, artificial and generative intelligence, climate change, and the future of the continent’s youth. The conversation is now live on withChude.com. ❤

Rev. King, awaiting the death penalty at Kirikiri prison, is one of the deadliest cult leaders the country has ever exposed. Beyond the sensational repeated highlights of the case, I wanted to understand how exactly this man could go from a Psychology Degree at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University to a monster who raped his church members, burnt them alive, killed Ann Uzor, and then slapped one of the victims live in court for the audacity of telling the truth. Many of the victims have since fled the country, changed their names and refuse to even remember those dark days - even as Rev. King’s church continues to thrive, his supporters continue to defend him, and his last birthday was celebrated with 13-page paid ads in national newsletters. In this true crime special, I go beyond the headlines talk to people who were in the middle of the story and dive deep into a dark, terrible event we must never forget. In a country where pastors and religious leaders continue to act like gods and get away with evil, we must never forget.

The Boo of the Booless is my guest today, and this is Chike like you have never heard him before. He tells me how he did not even know music would be his thing until after university. How he would just sing and disturb everybody around him. How the road here was tough. How he had to act for two years just to generate income. He talks about people calling him arrogant. Says he hears it a lot. About achieving so much success that his own mother once asked if he had joined a secret cult. We talk about money, and he says it plainly, “For me to be happy I need a lot of money. This is not even carnal. I like money. I want money” And when we talk about marriage, he does not flinch. Says he feels it is a stupid step, and that is his opinion. And it is the Boo of the Booless telling his truth. — To watch, go to watch.withchude.com and to listen go to listen.withchude.com. His mother woke up one morning and abandoned him, his father and siblings without a reason, he watched his father being slapped by touts right in front of him in the uncompleted building where they lived, as the man tried to navigate debilitating poverty with dignity and grace, and he survived multiple moments when his life could have been destroyed. Yet, Hermes Iyele is that rare human being who has looked deeply into the nature of life and being, and in the midst of hardship and broken dreams, found beauty and joy still. We talk about how he survived those dark days, how he fought his way through the slums, how he found his way into Big Brother and what it did to him, and we also explored his complex relationship with polyamory - one partner in Nigeria and another in Europe and what that has taught him about love and lust. I have spent a while trying to find the perfect time to share what I consider a transcendent, timeliness conversation, and I finally felt in my spirit that the time is here. Take my word for it. This one was pure light. — To watch, go to watch.withchude.com and to listen go to listen.withchude.com. If you have any issues with your subscriptions, please contact us on ‪‪+2348094321111

Rasheedat Ajibade, OON. First of Her Name. Captain of Nigeria’s Super Falcons. Fellow MFM-baby. As always, I am honoured that she reserved the deepest, rawest parts of her story for our show. You’ve heard about the goals and the dollars. Get ready to hear about the desperation and the depression - and how all of it brought her to God, and then to this moment of glory. Coming very soon. ❤️

15 years! As we celebrate 15 years of Y!/YNaija.com, which we launched in 2010, I find myself looking at the covers of the magazine - Wizkid, Genevieve, Omotola, Asa, Ashish Thakar and more - all through the years that we did a print version, inspired by Vanity Fair’s pursuit of the ineffable. I also find myself thinking about its impact over the same period. As some of the people who interviewed me for #WithChudeLive reminded me early this year, YNaija.com transformed the online space for culture journalism and for young people who were seeing the media differently.   Delivered an entire generation of international writers from across Nigeria - some still in university - whose first or early bylines were on Y! Magazine or YNaija.com. Inspired a generation of culture blogs, political blogs and ‘online newspapers’. Pioneered the lists and listicle tradition that fired up the imagination of younger writers and content creators. Incubated a series of brand verticals including Teen Y!, PartyJollof, The September Standard, The Other Style, Enterprise54, The Cutting Floor, Non-Binary, YNaija2015 with some of the best writers you will find anyway in the world, inspired by Gawker. Launched a series of TV shows across multiple stations hosted by Denola Grey, Zina Anumudu, Lamide Akintobi, Funmbi Ogunbanwo, Ferdinand Adimefe, Ifeanyi Dike Jr, Temisan Emmanuel, Biodun Laaro and a cast of the brightest talent. From The Black Ball to the #YTech100 to the #YNollywood100 to The Nigeria Prize for Difference and Diversity, it has built beautiful pop culture event brands that drive conversation. It is a legacy also shared by Isime Esene and Seun Oluyemi, long-term team members who built the brand from the ground with me and whom I granted ownership in the company as soon as it was 10 years old. The current CEO, Biola Olaore has taken on this baton since he moved from being my chief of staff to leading the team at YNaija in 2022 - and I am excited as he gets set to activate a brand refresh from the first day of 2026. But first, at a September event, we celebrate. 😎
