DALY CITY, Calif. (KRON) — Police say a 69-year-old Asian woman was attacked and robbed Thursday afternoon in Daly City.

It happened in a residential neighborhood just off of 280.

Daly City police say it was a strong arm robbery and no weapon was used.

The victim was injured, but not taken to the hospital. Police are still looking for the suspect.

People in the community say they’re shaken by what happened.

Neighbors tell KRON4 they’ve been disturbed by all of the anti-Asian crimes they’ve been seeing in the news but seeing this happen so close to home is scary.

They’re hoping something will bring an end to all of this violence.

“I’m scared. It’s not safe anymore,” Barbara Standifird said.

Barbara Standifird’s home security camera’s caught the violent crime on video Thursday afternoon seeing the victim being assaulted in front of her family’s home was frightening and has her fearful for her older neighbors.

“That’s who they want to target, the weak. They come up from behind them so people have to be careful just walking down the street,” Standifird said.

The video has been getting shared on social media as an alert for those who live nearby to be vigilant.

“It really concerned me that this is going on in our neighborhood,” a neighbor said.

Daly City’s Mayor Juslyn Manalo responded to the video and other recent crimes by saying quote:

“Robbery incidents have unfortunately happened in the past few days and the majority of the victims are of Asian descent. Although, we don’t know for certain if this is a hate crime, I stand firmly and denounce any hate crime or racist actions.”

The Asian community in this neighborhood says unfair that they’re being forced to live in fear. Standifird says now is the time for people to stand up.

“We all have to take care of each other. Especially your family, friends just make everybody aware,” Standifird said.

Daly City police say they’re still working on identifying a suspect. The unknown victim was treated on scene for her injuries.

The mayor says the police department will have more personnel on the streets to help prevent these crimes.
