FinTech Australia names investor Andrew Porter as its new CEO

FinTech Australia has appointed financial services investor, advisor and long time executive Andrew Porter as its new CEO.

Porter brings more than two decades of experience in the financial services sector to the position, including holding senior roles at three global payments fintechs OFX, World First and TransferMate.

FinTech Australia chair Simone Joyce said Porter’s appointment marks the next phase in FinTech Australia’s work of stewarding the growth of the industry. He replaces Rebecca Schot-Guppy, who stepped down after three years in the role for a new career in venture capital.

“Andrew’s long-running expertise in startups, fintech, and also cryptocurrency made him an ideal candidate to take up the reins and lead the organisation into the future,” Joyce said.

Porter said it is a huge honour to lead and represent a key voice in fintech.

“I have been given the opportunity to give back to the industry I have loved being a part of from its earliest days, and to help foster its growth at a critically innovative juncture,” he said.

“Thanks to FinTech Australia’s impressive membership base and its list of highly accomplished members, I’m excited about the organisation’s capacity to serve as an unrivalled hub for supporting mentorship across the industry.

“I also believe FinTech Australia can lead the way in defining fintech as a career path from high school through to tertiary education This is key to supporting a stronger and more innovative local Fintech industry, which is vital for the growth of the Australian economy.

The appointment comes as the organisation looks to play a leading role in dealing with the government on policy matters regarding new payments technology, cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation.

FinTech Australia now represents more that 420 fintechs in Australia while also supporting 35 corporate partners in their interactions with the industry.

It also presents the annual Finnie Awards for the best fintechs in Australia, as well as the Intersekt conference.
