A dog food company in the United Kingdom wants to pay 10 people to look at pictures of puppies.
No kidding.
The offer is part of a study to determine if looking at dogs on social media can alleviate stress levels.
Participants will be paid $27 an hour by ProDog Raw and must wear a heart rate monitor (provided). The study will be done over the course of one day.
“The company is looking to conduct the study after a recent survey by the brand discovered that the majority (73%) of people prefer to see a picture of a dog or cat on their social feed, rather than someone’s selfie.”
According to the company, “Each recruit will wear a heart rate monitor whilst going about their normal daily activities, with the exception of taking hourly breaks to look at a series of pre-prepared dog images. The heart rate data will then be collected and [analyzed] by a doctor to identify any key findings.”
Those selected will have to set an alarm to go off every hour so they can stop what they’re doing and look at a picture of a dog, which the company will provide. The work day is 6 hours and can be flexible.
Participants will be sent a chest heart rate monitor to wear then download the data via an app.
“We will provide training beforehand to ensure every test subject is comfortable using the devices. You must also keep a diary to note what times you looked at the dog photos to share with us at the end of the day.”
Participants cannot have any underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure or arrhythmia. Participants should be between ages 18 and 60, use social media, have access to the internet and have a desk-based job.
ProDog Raw wants to have participants selected by mid- to late-April and do the study in early May. The application is available here.
ProDog Raw is a raw dog food company that “champions healthier lifestyles and diets for dogs with an expanding range of premium human grade ingredients. Its main goal is to raise awareness to the dangers that heavily [processed] food present to dogs.”
“We as a nation love to share pictures and videos of our four-legged friends, and it turns out we love to see and interact with them, too,” said ProDog Raw founder Heidi Maskelyne.
“It is scientifically proven that our pets can relieve stress, but there’s not much research on whether simply looking at a picture of a dog can help calm a person’s mood.
We saw this as a big opportunity to shed some light on the subject and are really excited to see the results, especially when so many people are struggling during these difficult times. If you are interested in taking a couple of minutes here and there out of your day to look at puppy pictures and get paid to do so, please apply!”
