Before donning mask, perform hand hygiene and don gloves.

0:04

Prior to donning your N95, ensure hair is tied up.

0:11

Make sure no makeup is worn as this compromises the mask

0:16

Ask a coworker to assist or use a mirror to check the placement of your N95 mask.

0:24

Cup the mask and bring it to your face.

0:31

The mask should sit center on the bridge of your nose.

0:36

Most masks seal best when they are high on the bridge of the nose.

0:41

Bring the top strap over your head and place just above your ears.

0:45

Then bring the bottom strap over your head and place just below the ears.

0:51

Without touching your face, use 2 fingers from each hand and gently mold the metal bar

0:57

DO NOT pinch or poke as this causes peaks and makes an improper seal.

1:05

Now perform your seal check by placing hands above and below the mask, without touching

1:11

your face or eyes, and blow out forcefully.

1:19

Ensure you do not feel air escaping around the borders of the mask with those breaths.

1:22

If you do not feel air, you are now good to go.

1:29

If you did feel air escaping, you may have to move the mask up or down and perform another seal check.

1:33

If this does not work, you can criss- cross your straps to make them tighter.

1:44

Before adjusting the straps, perform hand hygiene.

1:52

Slightly lower the upper strap, then raise the lower strap to cross over the upper strap.

2:00

The straps should be crossed just above your ears.

2:12

Perform another seal check to ensure a proper fit.

2:18

If you still cannot get a proper seal, please seek out your supervisor.

2:23

If you do have a proper seal, perform hand hygiene and you are now free to do patient care.
