Christian Nightmares

Hi, I'm Christian Nightmares! I was raised in an extremely fundamentalist Baptist church and "born again" at the age of five-years-old. I spent several hours each week when I was a kid going to a church where emotionally abusive preachers would often yell things like, "God said it, I believe it, that settles it!" and ask, "If you were to leave here today and get hit by a car, do you know where you'd spend eternity?" Thankfully, I left the church and Christianity when I was around 20-years-old. For the past 14 years, I've been using&nbsp;<a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">my blog</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/ChristnNitemare" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">social media presence</a> to re-examine my&nbsp;fundamentalist Christian upbringing through adult eyes.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/the-best-tumblr-blogs-of-2011?utm_term=.sbV2ZnoEA#.vuVo4yYBR" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">BuzzFeed said</a>,&nbsp;"Christian Nightmares is the best place on the Internet to find creepy Christian shit," while&nbsp;<a href="http://usreligion.blogspot.com/2010/05/nightmare-on-born-again-street.html" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">Religion in American History</a> called Christian Nightmares "a blog for those with a dark, maybe even grotesque, sense of humor." Maybe they're both right? Either way, it's been a very cathartic experience and&nbsp;<a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/post/10059467388/once-in-awhile-i-get-a-nice-email" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">some</a> <a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/post/62528804814/every-once-in-awhile-i-get-a-nice-email-ive" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">other</a> <a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/post/102675452316/once-in-awhile-i-get-a-nice-email-this-time-we" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">people</a> have gotten something out of it, too.&nbsp; Christian Nightmares isn't always creepy and dark, though, sometimes it's&nbsp;<a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/post/91066065191/praise-r-cise-get-amazing-weight-loss-results-by" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">light</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/post/177312326501/seems-a-little-unfair-to-pastor-larry-ht" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">funny</a>. And I've been able to use my blog to draw attention to the sexist and homophobic words and actions of certain evangelical pastors,&nbsp;<a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/post/427705323/evangelist-mark-driscoll-claims-that-all-the" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">such as this guy</a>, and to expose the alleged abusive behavior of some church leaders, such as&nbsp;<a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/post/107668514241/pastor-brags-about-punching-a-dangerously-bright" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">the pastor who bragged about punching a kid in the chest</a> for not taking the Lord seriously (the video went viral after I posted it and received national and international press coverage). In addition to continuing to post regularly on my blog and social media, in the coming months I plan on doing more interviews like&nbsp;<a href="https://christiannightmares.tumblr.com/post/64657227995/an-exclusive-interview-with-the-director-of" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">this</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://christiannightmarestoo.tumblr.com/post/80221285210/unlearning-purity-culture-qa-with-the-founder-of" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">this</a>, launching a series of short video interviews with other members of the&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23exvangelical&amp;src=typd" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">#exvangelical community</a>, and recording and releasing more songs by&nbsp;<a href="https://thechristiannightmarestribulationband.bandcamp.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">The Christian Nightmares Tribulation Band</a>.
