The Lord Of The Rings-Inspired Cryptocurrency JRR Token Launches, Promoted By Pippin Actor

There are few fantasy series that have a hold on the public consciousness like The Lord of the Rings does. Of course, the books by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, or JRR Tolkien for short, were a huge success on their own but combined with the power of the Peter Jackson films, you're not considered a true fantasy nerd unless you've at least seen the directors cut of the movies. So, armed with the knowledge that the franchise is incredibly popular and a pretty good pun, someone has made a cryptocurrency for The Lord of the Rings lovers.

JRR Token is a new currency made with Tolkien in mind, hence the punny name, and is launching soon with the motto *ahem* "The One Token That Rules Them All". They're really leaning into this joke huh? In any case, the website to promote the site claims that the development is "accessible and fully transparent" with its community, with "generous" benefits to holding the coin and charity donations. The team have even got a friendly face promoting their brand too.

Billy Boyd who is best known for his role as Peregrin "Pippin" Took in The Lord of the Rings films was paid on Cameo to shout out the token. Though he doesn't tell fans to buy into the crypto, he does say that he thinks it's going to the moon and back. Though it was clever of the JRR Token team to get a cast member involved, it doesn't look like it's convinced many fans of its benefits.

If you didn't know, many of the themes Tolkien promoted in his work rallied against ideas like industrialism and environmentally harmful processes - I mean come on, giant trees destroying a pit factory? Yeah, it's not hard to notice the symbolism there. Cryptocurrency may have its advantages but it's also a hugely environmentally harmful way of transferring and generating wealth.

Those who love Tolkien's work are replying to the JRR Token pretty negatively as a result. You can see it especially under the tweet showing Boyd's promotion of the token pointing out Tolkien's love for nature and distaste of industrialism in conflict with this token. It's unclear if the coin will be a success when it launches at the end of this week.
