Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg led a Fridays for Future student demonstration of 25,000 people. “It is not a secret that COP26 is a failure,” she said. “It should be obvious that we cannot solve a crisis with the same methods that got us into it in the first place.”
COP26 President Alok Sharma has urged climate negotiators to speed up their work so draft proposals tackling climate change are ready for the ministers arriving next week.
Youth activists are also being featured as part of the official conference program, with Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai among Friday’s speakers.

Inventive solutions: Some people have built off-the-grid homes from trash to stand up to a changing climate. As seas rise, others are exploring how to harness marine energy.
