Why this petition matters

Started by Troi Davis

DePaul University operates on a quarter system. This means during this pandemic and nationwide attack on racism and police brutality following the murder of George Floyd, Black DePaul students are expected to process our trauma and complete final exams/assignments.

DePaul has only offered inaccessible counseling services. We say these services are inaccessible due to them being offered remotely. Additionally, it is unrealistic to seek counseling whilst trying to complete coursework for our classes. Unfortunately, this is not enough. We need our load lightened. To ask students to carry on academically during this time does not align with Vincentian values.

We ask that our allies help support us in gaining final exam/assignment exemptions for students. It is unjust that we are expected to push past the trauma of being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 AND the murders of our people. Our GPAs should not have to suffer because we are collectively experiencing racial trauma.
